'Phantoms of the Popera' starring G4
Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone
8 March 2027 to 29 March 2027 (selected dates)
Simon Beaufoy's The Full Monty stars Kevin Clifton as Gaz on its UK tour marking the film's 30th anniversary. Book tickets, age 14+.
Simon Beaufoy’s The Full Monty follows Gaz and a group of men trying to recover their dignity after being left behind. This touring play marks thirty years since the film, with Kevin Clifton advertised as Gaz and a running time of two hours and twenty minutes.
Beaufoy's play follows Gaz and a group of lads who, down on their luck and feeling discarded, resolve to fight back by staging a striptease. The characters are portrayed as ordinary men seeking to recover their dignity rather than as heroes, with comedy and heartbreak running alongside each other.
The producers draw a direct parallel between the post-industrial anxieties that informed the 1997 film and present cost-of-living pressures, framing that continuity of theme as central to this anniversary tour.
The production is presented by Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham and Buxton Opera House, working in association with producers Mark Goucher and David Pugh.
Kevin Clifton, known for Strictly Come Dancing, is advertised as Gaz. Stewart Wright, whose credits include Doc Martin and The Upstart Crow at the Apollo Theatre, plays Dave. James Gaddas, familiar from Coronation Street and The Rocky Horror Picture Show UK Tour, takes the role of Gerald. Ben Onwukwe, who appeared in The Full Monty UK Tour 2024 and The Shawshank Redemption UK Tour, plays Horse. Jon-Paul Bell, known for Hollyoaks and Masters of Air, plays Guy, and Zrey Sholapurkar, whose stage work includes Lark Rise to Candleford at The Watermill Theatre and The History Boys UK Tour, plays Lomper.
The production carries an age guidance of 14 and above. It contains adult themes, a depiction of suicide and partial nudity. Children under three will not be admitted, and anyone under 16 must sit next to an adult aged 18 or over.
