Mean Girls the musical has been running at the August Wilson Theatre since April 2018 seemingly another victim of the extended Broadway closures which could remain closed until at least 30 May 2021 (Maybe!).

Mean Girls the musical features music by Jeff Richmond, lyrics by Nell Benjamin, with direction and choreography by Casey Nicholaw. Mean Girls received 12 Tony Nominations in 2018, but none translated to a win. Still, the production recouped its $17.3 USD capitalisation in January 2020.

The Broadway cast performed in NBC's Broadway special at Christmas hosted by the show's creator Tina Fey, who also wrote the musical's book.

The producers who include Lorne Michaels, Stuart Thompson, Paramount Pictures and Sonia Friedman, are said to be planning a North American tour, a West End production and a film adaptation of the shows in the works.

“Thank you to the brilliant creative team, cast and crew that brought Mean Girls to life from our first reading to final performance,” Lorne Michaels said in the press release. “We remain excited to bring this musical to the big screen, relaunch the tour and prepare for a London production. I look forward to the day, hopefully soon, when theatres can open their doors again.”
