The Jungle, uma coprodução entre o National Theatre, o Young Vic e o Good Chance Theatre, transfere-se para o Playhouse Theatre.

Depois do aplauso da crítica e de uma temporada esgotada no Young Vic, os produtores Sonia Friedman Productions, Tom Kirdahy e Hunter Arnold têm o prazer de anunciar o elenco completo para a transferência para o West End de The Jungle, de Joe Murphy e Joe Robertson — uma coprodução do National Theatre e do Young Vic com o Good Chance Theatre, encenada por Stephen Daldry e Justin Martin. O espetáculo passa-se no maior campo de refugiados não oficial da Europa, a Jungle de Calais, que em 2015 se tornou um lar temporário para mais de 10.000 pessoas. The Jungle transfere-se para o Playhouse Theatre, onde o tradicional palco à italiana está a ser alvo de uma transformação sem precedentes, como nunca se viu antes numa sala do West End. A plateia foi completamente reconfigurada para acolher a aclamada cenografia de Miriam Buether, tal como no Young Vic, onde o público era convidado a sentar-se nos bancos e mesas do café afegão no campo de Calais.

O Playhouse Theatre vai também proporcionar a experiência inédita de assistir a partir do Balcão, agora rebatizado “Cliffs of Dover”. Embora o balcão mantenha a sua disposição tradicional de lugares, esta vivência única e intimista será totalmente diferente de tudo o que os habituais frequentadores do Playhouse Theatre já tiveram, com vistas sobre o espaço cénico dramaticamente transformado abaixo, que se estende para lá do arco do proscénio e sobre a plateia, reforçado por ecrãs de vídeo que transmitem imagens em grande plano, em estilo de ‘direto jornalístico’, de algumas das ações. A transformação para palco em arena reduz a lotação do teatro para menos de 450 lugares. Os bilhetes de preço mais elevado permitem diretamente que 40% da sala tenha preços de £25 ou menos, e uma parte dos bilhetes será retirada da venda para ser disponibilizada a refugiados e a grupos específicos, de modo a maximizar a diversidade e a acessibilidade.
