Burlesque The Musical is written by Steven Antin and executive produced by Christina Aguilera, adapted from the film of the same name. Following its West End run, the production is now on UK tour, telling the story of a young woman who finds her voice inside an underground performance club. It runs two hours and twenty minutes and is rated 12 and above.

The story and songs

Ali Rose arrives in New York looking for the mother she never knew and stumbles into a hidden world of performance, ambition and sequins. Through the club and its community of dreamers, misfits and schemers, she discovers her voice and an unexpected surrogate family.

The score combines songs by Christina Aguilera, Sia and Diane Warren with newly written material from Todrick Hall and Jess Folley.

The UK tour cast

Faye Brookes, known for Coronation Street and Chicago, leads the company as Tess Richarde. Ryan Carter, who has appeared in Titanique and Ain't Too Proud, takes on the dual roles of Sean and Ms Loretta. Gracie O'Brien, a recent graduate, steps into the role of Ali Rose for her professional stage debut.

Further principal roles are filled by Davide Fienauri, whose credits include Kiss of the Spider Woman and Moulin Rouge, as Vince; Tyler Davis, previously seen in Sunset Blvd and Back To The Future, as Jackson; and Vanessa Ela Young, known for The Drifters Girl and Moulin Rouge, as Nikki. These names reflect the advertised casting.

Audience information and access

The production is recommended for ages 12 and above. Strobe lighting, smoke and haze are used, so anyone with sensitivities to these effects may wish to contact their chosen venue before booking.

Several venues have scheduled designated access performances. The Alexandra, Birmingham has a signed performance. Aylesbury Waterside Theatre has a captioned performance, with captioning provided by Complete Communication. Liverpool Empire has both a signed performance and an audio described performance. New Theatre Oxford has an audio described performance (provided by Mind's Eye), a captioned performance (provided by Stagetext) and a signed performance (provided by THEATRESIGN).
