The West End's most gloriously ghoulish musical just got a sparkling new addition. Beetlejuice The Musical has announced that Summer Strallen, a four-time Olivier Award nominee with a dazzling roster of West End credits, will step into the role of Delia Deetz for a strictly limited season at the Prince Edward Theatre. Strallen will take over from Aimie Atkinson from Monday 3 August through Monday 2 November 2026, bringing her own unique energy to the crystal-obsessed, endlessly optimistic life coach who finds herself navigating the chaos of the Netherworld.

A West End Star Steps Into the Netherworld
Strallen is no stranger to the big stage. Her extensive West End career includes starring roles in Top Hat at the Aldwych Theatre, Love Never Dies at the Adelphi Theatre, Young Frankenstein at the Garrick Theatre, The Sound of Music at the London Palladium and Sadler's Wells, The Drowsy Chaperone at the Novello Theatre, and CATS. Her range across musical theatre, drama, television, and film makes her a natural fit for the delightfully eccentric Delia, a character who balances comedy with heart in a show that thrives on both.
Speaking about the role, Strallen expressed infectious enthusiasm, likening Delia to a version of herself from 2017, complete with crystals, moon ceremonies, and an unwavering belief that the universe has a plan. She promised to bring her own brand of inspirational good vibes to the Deetz family, joking that her crystals are charged and ready to see if they can handle the Netherworld. It is precisely this kind of joyful, self-aware energy that could make her interpretation of Delia one of the highlights of the show's current West End run.
Why Aimie Atkinson Is Stepping Away (Temporarily)
The casting change comes about for an exciting reason. During Strallen's three-month stint, Aimie Atkinson will be heading across the Atlantic to make her Broadway debut. Atkinson, who originated the role of Katherine Howard in the West End production of Six, will reprise that Olivier Award-nominated performance at the Lena Horne Theatre in New York. It is a well-deserved milestone for one of British musical theatre's most dynamic performers.
Atkinson will return to the West End and resume the role of Delia in Beetlejuice The Musical from Wednesday 3 November 2026, meaning audiences who want to see both performers in the role have a clear window to plan their visits.
Beetlejuice The Musical: A West End Phenomenon
Based on Tim Burton's beloved 1988 film, Beetlejuice The Musical has been a sensation since it first landed on the West End. With a book by Scott Brown and Anthony King, a brilliantly irreverent score by Eddie Perfect, and direction by Alex Timbers, the show follows teenager Lydia Deetz as she encounters the mischievous, recently deceased couple Adam and Barbara Maitland, along with the chaotic demon Beetlejuice himself. Delia, Lydia's stepmother, provides some of the show's funniest moments as she attempts to maintain her positive outlook while ghosts wreak havoc around her.
The production is currently confirmed at the Prince Edward Theatre through to Saturday 17 April 2027, giving theatregoers plenty of time to experience the spectacle. The show has been praised for its inventive staging, outrageous humour, and a visual design that brings the Netherworld to vivid, riotous life. It has become one of the must-see musicals in the West End, drawing audiences who know the film as well as newcomers discovering the story for the first time.
Summer Strallen's Remarkable Career
What makes Strallen's casting particularly exciting is the sheer breadth of her experience. Beyond her acclaimed West End work, her credits extend to The Magician's Elephant with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Life of the Party at the Menier Chocolate Factory, Guys and Dolls at the Piccadilly Theatre, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium, and Dick Whittington at the Barbican Theatre. She has also appeared in Scrooge at the Dominion Theatre and performed internationally, including at Shanghai's Culture Square Theatre.
On screen, Strallen appeared in both Wicked and Wicked: For Good, along with ITV's Archie, Casualty, Doctors, Hotel Babylon, and Hollyoaks. She has also recorded original London cast albums for both Young Frankenstein and Top Hat, and contributed to the original concept album for Love Never Dies. This combination of stage presence, vocal ability, and comedic timing positions her as an ideal Delia Deetz.
The Current Cast Lineup
Strallen will be joining a strong existing ensemble at the Prince Edward Theatre. David Fynn, known for School of Rock at the Gillian Lynne Theatre and BBC's Am I Being Unreasonable, is among the current cast members. The production continues to attract top-tier talent, a testament to the show's reputation as one of the most creatively ambitious musicals currently running in London.
Should You Book?
If you have been considering seeing Beetlejuice The Musical, the arrival of Summer Strallen creates a compelling reason to visit between August and November 2026. Limited-run casting like this tends to drive demand, particularly for a performer of Strallen's calibre. Those who have already seen the show may want to return to experience a fresh take on Delia, while first-time attendees can look forward to one of the West End's most entertaining evenings out.
With the production booking through April 2027, there is also plenty of opportunity to see Aimie Atkinson's return to the role from November onwards. Either way, Beetlejuice remains one of the hottest tickets in London theatre.
