Final Weeks for Pride and Prejudice, Sherlock Holmes, and Alice in Wonderland

Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre in Chester is entering the final weeks of its 2025 season, with glowing reviews and strong audience attendance across all three summer productions. The season continues until 31 August, with tickets still available for all shows.

This year’s line-up includes the return of the beloved adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, a newly written Sherlock Holmes mystery set in modern-day Chester, and an interactive Alice in Wonderland Walkabout Experience for families. The season has drawn praise for its inventive staging, inclusive programming, and vibrant atmosphere.

Pride, Mystery and Wonderland

Pride and Prejudice, adapted by Deborah McAndrew and directed by Conrad Nelson, returns as part of celebrations marking 250 years since the birth of Jane Austen. This fresh and lively take on the classic romance is once again proving to be a fan favourite.

New for 2025, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, written by Molly Taylor and directed by Ellie Hurt, brings the iconic detective into a contemporary Chester setting. Featuring plenty of humour, heart, and twists, the show reimagines Holmes and Watson for a new generation.

For younger audiences, the Alice in Wonderland Walkabout Experience invites families to step into Lewis Carroll’s surreal world with a roaming theatrical journey that ends at the open-air stage. Two Mad Hatter’s Tea Party events on 28 and 30 August add an extra dose of magic, complete with themed treats and character appearances.

Open-Air Magic in Chester

Now in its 14th year, Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre is known for its unique circular stage, relaxed seating options, and picnic-friendly format. Audiences can enjoy wood-fired pizzas, barbecue menus, and summer cocktails while taking in top-quality productions in the heart of the city.

This season’s run has been helped along by glorious weather and a record number of returning theatre-goers, creating a festival-like atmosphere that continues into the final performances.
