West End Premiere of The Score Begins Its Limited Run
Brand-new production images have been released for the West End premiere of The Score, starring Brian Cox (Succession) as Johann Sebastian Bach and Nicole Ansari-Cox as his wife, Anna Magdalena Bach. The play, written by Oliver Cotton and directed by legendary theatre figure Trevor Nunn, is now running at the Theatre Royal Haymarket until 26 April 2025, with its official press night on 27 February 2025.
This gripping historical drama explores a high-stakes meeting between Bach and Prussian ruler Frederick the Great, blending music, power, and philosophy in an unforgettable theatrical experience.
A Clash of Titans: The Story Behind The Score
Set in Potsdam, Prussia, in 1747, The Score follows the reluctant visit of Johann Sebastian Bach to the court of Frederick II, one of Europe's most formidable rulers. The two men could not be more different—Bach, a deeply religious composer, and Frederick, a military leader with an unshakable atheism.
As Frederick challenges Bach with a musical puzzle meant to entertain his court and confound the composer, the encounter unfolds into an unexpected battle of wits and ideologies, changing them both forever.
A Star-Studded Cast Led by Brian Cox
Alongside Brian Cox and Nicole Ansari-Cox, The Score features an outstanding cast, including:
