2020 토니 어워즈 노미네이션 발표

코로나19 팬데믹으로 시즌이 조기 종료된 가운데, 브로드웨이 작품들을 기리는 2020 토니 어워즈 후보가 발표됐다.

코로나19로 시즌이 단축되며 발표가 늦춰진 2020 토니 어워즈 후보에서는 Jagged Little Pill, Moulin Rouge!, Slave Play가 최다 부문을 이끌었다.

이번 주 후보 발표는 제임스 먼로 이글하트가 진행했으며, 위 영상에서 확인할 수 있다.

뮤지컬 부문에서는 앨러니스 모리셋의 음악을 바탕으로 한 Jagged Little Pill이 15개 부문 후보에 올라 선두를 달렸다. 해당 작품은 출품 가능한 모든 부문에서 최소 1개 이상 후보에 이름을 올렸다. Moulin Rouge!는 14개 부문 후보를 기록했다. 작품상(최우수 뮤지컬) 경쟁에는 Jagged Little Pill, Moulin Rouge! The Musical과 함께 Tina – The Tina Turner Musical이 올랐다.

연극 부문에서는 제러미 O. 해리스의 Slave Play가 12개 부문 후보에 올라(연극 작품 기준 역대 최다) 화제를 모았고, 매튜 로페즈의 The Inheritance가 11개 부문 후보를 받았다. 최우수 연극 작품상 부문에는 베스 월의 Grand Horizons, 애덤 랩의 The Sound Inside, 사이먼 스티븐스와 닉 페인의 Sea Wall/A Life도 함께 이름을 올렸다.

3월 12일 브로드웨이 셧다운으로 인해 출품 마감일(eligibility cut-off date)이 변경되면서 2020 토니 어워즈에는 총 18개 작품이 경쟁에 올랐다. 브로드웨이 중단은 최소 2021년 6월까지, 그리고 그 이후까지도 이어질 가능성이 있다.

온라인(버추얼)로 진행될 2020 토니 어워즈 시상식의 날짜는 아직 발표되지 않았다.
