Panto-aflysninger og fyringer i teaterbranchen: Den løbende opgørelse

Vi har set så mange opslag om aflyste juleforestillinger (panto) og fyringer i branchen, at vi har besluttet at samle en dagligt opdateret opgørelse over konsekvenserne for teaterverdenen.

Teaterindustrien står midt i en af de største trusler mod sin eksistens nogensinde, udløst af COVID-19-pandemien, der truer med aflysninger af den britiske pantomime-tradition og massive fyringer.

Teatre over hele landet befinder sig midt i omfattende høringer om afskedigelser efter en langvarig forsinkelse fra regeringens side med at annoncere støttemidler til kunstsektoren. Disse fyringer tager nu fart efter forsinkelser i regeringens retningslinjer, hvilket betyder, at pantomime-sæsonen 2020-21 på nationalt plan efter alt at dømme bliver helt aflyst.

Da pantomime-sæsonen normalt genererer de overskud, teatrene bruger til at dække deres driftsomkostninger det følgende år, vil følgevirkningerne for både teatre og de mange tilknyttede leverandører og produktionsselskaber sandsynligvis blive katastrofale.

I øjeblikket er mere end 3.000 freelancere i teaterverdenen faldet gennem sikkerhedsnettet uden adgang til hjælpepakker, sociale ydelser eller nævneværdig støtte i over 4 måneder. Det er en uholdbar situation.
