Pantos som ställs in och varsel inom teatern – vi sammanfattar läget

Vi har sett så många inlägg om inställda julspel (panto) och varsel inom scenkonsten att vi har beslutat oss för att sammanställa en daglig räkning av pandemins effekter på teaterbranschen.

Teaterbranschen befinner sig i det största hotet mot sin existens någonsin, utlöst av COVID-19-pandemin som hotar med inställda julpantomimer och massuppsägningar.

Teatrar över hela landet befinner sig mitt i omfattande redundanskonsultationer till följd av regeringens långa dröjsmål med att utannonsera stöd till kultursektorn. Dessa uppsägningar trappas nu upp efter försenade riktlinjer från regeringen, vilket innebär att pantomimsäsongen 2020–21 nationellt sett med största sannolikhet kommer att ställas in helt och hållet.

Eftersom pantomimsäsongen genererar de vinster som teatrarna använder för att täcka sina verksamhetskostnader för nästföljande år, innebär inställda föreställningar och påverkan på underleverantörer och produktionsbolag en kedjereaktion som sannolikt blir katastrofal.

I dagsläget har över 3 000 frilansare inom teatern fallit mellan stolarna; de har varken fått permitteringsstöd, bidrag eller något egentligt stöd på över fyra månader. Det är en ohållbar situation.
