Theatre fans who missed the sold-out 25th anniversary concert of The Last Five Years at the London Palladium will soon be able to experience it at home. Atlantic Records has confirmed that an official live recording of the celebrated Jason Robert Brown musical is set for release on 20 April.
Ben Platt and Rachel Zegler Announce the Album
The news was revealed in suitably theatrical fashion. Stars Ben Platt and Rachel Zegler broke the announcement from the stage of the Hollywood Bowl during the curtain call for the concert's North American leg. The album, officially titled The Last Five Years (25th Anniversary Live at the London Palladium), is now available for pre-order.
Platt and Zegler headlined the London concert staging, which ran for a limited engagement from 24 to 29 March 2026. The production was presented by Lambert Jackson with LW Tickets and featured an impressive creative team led by Brown himself as director and conductor, alongside associate director Emma Butler and musical director Leo Munby.
A Landmark Anniversary for a Modern Musical Classic
First staged in 2001, The Last Five Years has become one of the most cherished works in contemporary musical theatre. The two-hander traces the arc of a relationship between two New Yorkers, told from opposite chronological directions: one story moves forward, the other in reverse. Its inventive structure and emotionally raw score have made it a favourite for revivals in both full theatrical productions and concert settings around the world.
The 25th anniversary celebration doesn't end in London. Following the Los Angeles performances at the Hollywood Bowl, the concert moves to New York for two final shows at Radio City Music Hall on 6 and 7 April. Both performances have already sold out.
What's on the Album?
The full tracklist captures the complete show as performed live at the Palladium. Highlights include beloved numbers such as Still Hurting, Moving Too Fast, See I'm Smiling, The Schmuel Song, If I Didn't Believe in You, and Nobody Needs to Know. The recording also features the show's poignant dual finales, Goodbye Until Tomorrow and I Could Never Rescue You.
Should You Pre-Order?
If you're a fan of Jason Robert Brown's work, or of either Platt or Zegler (both of whom have proven their musical theatre credentials many times over), this is a release worth marking in your diary. Live cast recordings carry an energy that studio albums often can't replicate, and the combination of two major stars performing in one of London's most iconic venues makes this a particularly exciting prospect. With the album dropping on 20 April, pre-ordering now ensures you won't miss out.
