Nominations for the Tony Awards 2019 were announced today with Hadestown scoring the most nominations. The Broadway transfer of Jez Butterworth's The Ferryman received nine nominations.

Hadestown has topped the nominations leaderboard for the Tony Awards 2019 with 14 nominations, with Ain't Too Proud, the jukebox musical about the temptations coming in second with 12 nominations. Following them was Totsie with 11 nominations, British import The Ferryman with 9 nominations and Beetlejuice with 8 nominations. This year's nominations will be remembered more for their ommissions rather than their inclusions. Both Glenda Jackson and Nathan Lane were overlooked for King Lear and Gary: A Sequel To Titus Andronicus respectively in the lead actor categories. Also omitted were To Kill A Mockingbird and Network which were both expected to feature in the Best Play category.

The nominations were announced this morning by Brandon Victor Dixon and Bebe Neuwirth.

This 73rd Tony Awards ceremony will be hosted by James Corden at Radio City Music Hall on 9 June 2019.
