Het Trafalgar Theatre werd op 29 september 1930 geopend als het Whitehall Theatre. Al snel bouwde het theater een sterke reputatie op met eigentijdse komedies, gevolgd door een reeks revues tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Een van de grootste successen uit die tijd was 'The Whitehall Follies', met Phyllis Dixey in de hoofdrol. Als de eerste striptease-danseres in de West End was de show zo succesvol dat zij het theater kon huren en er maar liefst vijf jaar bleef optreden. In de jaren 50 en 60 stond het theater bekend om de populaire 'Whitehall Farces'; deze vijf kluchten waren een enorme hit en liepen elk wel twee tot vier jaar. Van 1969 tot 1974 werd er een naakt-revue opgevoerd ('Pyjama Tops'), waarna het theater tijdelijk de deuren sloot. Na een grondige renovatie ging het theater in 1986 weer open. Er stonden voornamelijk komedies op het programma tot het in 1997 werd omgebouwd tot een televisie- en radiostudio. In 1999 kreeg het gebouw zijn theaterfunctie terug, maar sloot het kort daarna voor een herindeling. Onder de nieuwe naam Trafalgar Studios heropende het op 3 juni 2004 met een productie van 'Othello'. Sindsdien zijn er diverse kortlopende toneelstukken en musicals te zien geweest, waaronder 'Sweeney Todd', 'Jane Eyre', 'Dealer’s Choice', 'Entertaining Mr. Sloane' en 'A Christmas Carol'. Recentelijk is het gebouw na een miljoenenoperatie volledig gerestaureerd en omgedoopt tot het Trafalgar Theatre. Het interieur is teruggebracht naar het oorspronkelijke art-deco-ontwerp uit 1930, waarvan sommige details al meer dan 90 jaar niet meer zichtbaar waren geweest voor het publiek.

Parkeren in de buurt van het Trafalgar Square kan bij MasterPark of de NCP aan Bedfordbury Street.

The Trafalgar Theatre was originally called the Whitehall Theatre when it opened on 29 September 1930. Throughout the decade, it built up a reputation for housing modern comedies, before producing several revues throughout the Second World War.

One of the greatest successes of the period was The Whitehall Follies, which starred Phyllis Dixey. As the first stripper to perform in the West End, the success of the show allowed her to lease the theatre and stay there for the next five years.

The 1950s and 1960s saw the theatre hosting five farces (known as the Whitehall Farces), which proved especially popular (running 2-4 years each). From 1969-1974, a nude revue (Pyjama Tops) played in the venue before it was closed.

The theatre finally reopened after refurbishment in 1986. It continued a programme of comedies before it was converted into a television and radio studio in 1997. It returned to theatrical use in 1999, but was subsequently closed to be reconfigured. The new theatre called Trafalgar Studios, opened on 3 June 2004 with a production of Othello. Since then, the theatre has hosted short runs of plays and musicals, including Sweeney Todd, Jane Eyre, Dealer’s Choice, Entertaining Mr. Sloane, and A Christmas Carol.

Restored and renamed The Trafalgar Theatre, the building underwent a multi-million-pound restoration project reinstating the theatre back to its original heritage 1930s design, some of which has not been seen for over 90 years.
