Tony Awards 2019 – se den komplette vinderliste og video

Den 73. årlige Tony Awards-uddeling blev afholdt i aftes i Radio City Music Hall for at hylde det bedste fra Broadway. Det britiske skuespil The Ferryman og Anaïs Mitchells Hadestown blev aftenens helt store vindere.

Med James Corden som vært for årets Tony Awards dominerede Hadestown og The Ferryman begivenhederne med henholdsvis 8 og 4 priser, herunder Bedste Nye Musical og Bedste Nye Skuespil. The Boys In The Band vandt for bedste genopsætning af et skuespil, mens Oklahoma! vandt for bedste genopsætning af en musical.

Hadestown, der har musik og manuskript af Anaïs Mitchell og er instrueret af Rachel Chavkin, spillede på National Theatre i London forud for sin tid på Broadway. Mitchell er blot den tredje kvinde nogensinde, der vinder en Tony for både musik og tekster til en Broadway-musical, mens Jessica Paz blev den første kvinde nogensinde til at blive nomineret og vinde for lyddesign – en pris hun delte med sin med-lyddesigner på Hadestown, Nevin Steinberg.

Hadestown dominerede dog ikke alle kategorier; Santino Fontana og Robert Horn vandt henholdsvis prisen for bedste mandlige hovedrolle i en musical og bedste manuskript til en musical for Tootsie, Stephanie J. Block vandt for bedste kvindelige hovedrolle i en musical for The Cher Show, og Sergio Trujillo fra Ain't Too Proud vandt prisen for bedste koreografi.

Der blev skrevet historie, da Ali Stroker blev den føste skuespiller i kørestol til at vinde en Tony Award, da hun modtog prisen for bedste kvindelige birolle i en musical for sin præstation i Oklahoma! Stroker udtalte, at hun føler sig beæret over at være en rollemodel for andre med handicap. Som 11-årig savnede hun selv at kunne spejle sig i nogen på scenen. "Denne pris er til alle de børn, der kigger med i aften, og som lever med et handicap, en begrænsning eller en udfordring," sagde Stroker i sin takketale.
