Annunciati i vincitori dei premi del Vault Festival 2020

I vincitori sono stati annunciati oggi nell’ambito dei premi annuali dedicati agli spettacoli del Vault Festival 2020 Awards a Londra.

Il festival avrebbe dovuto concludersi oggi, ma ha chiuso una settimana prima a causa della pandemia di coronavirus. Al posto di una cerimonia, i vincitori dei Vault Festival 2020 Awards sono stati annunciati sui social media dai fondatori Mat Burtcher e Andy George e dalla responsabile di teatro e performance, Bec Martin-Williams.

Il People’s Choice Award è andato a Stages: A Video Game Musical, scritto da Chris Czornjy e prodotto da Adam Lenson Productions. In scena al Vault dal 3 all’8 marzo, vedeva le star del musical theatre Anna Jane Casey e Andrew Langtree al fianco di Aitch Wylie e Max Alexander-Taylor.

L’Innovation Award è stato assegnato allo spettacolo immersivo site-specific di Quietly Fighting Theatre, The Grim, dal 4 al 16 febbraio, che trasformava gli spettatori in “mietitori” freelance al servizio dell’Ufficio del Tristo Mietitore.

L’After Dark Award, dedicato alle produzioni di spicco della programmazione notturna, è andato a Séayoncé’s Comedy Vault, uno show di comedy, cabaret e drag presentato da Daniel Wye e The Good Witch – descritto come “una serata di eccellenza queer e piccantezza spirituale”.

Lo Spirit Award, destinato alle compagnie che incarnano lo spirito e l’etica del festival – creatività, collaborazione e gentilezza – è stato assegnato a Sound Cistem di Plaster Cast Theatre, dal 29 gennaio al 6 febbraio: una “celebrazione queer” e “dance party” che sfida lo sguardo cisgender sul corpo transgender.

Sono stati inoltre assegnati premi settimanali per lo Show of the Week e l’Origins Award per i nuovi lavori più notevoli. Qui sotto trovate l’elenco completo di tutti i vincitori e i nominati.

In sette settimane di festival, dal 28 gennaio al 15 marzo, oltre 2.700 artisti hanno presentato 519 produzioni diverse a più di 73.000 spettatori. Non sono incluse le 97 produzioni che questa settimana non hanno potuto andare in scena.

Quest’anno il festival ha presentato più lavori guidati da donne, persone razzializzate, persone con disabilità, artisti LGBTQ+ e persone di classe lavoratrice.

Burtcher ha dichiarato: “È un periodo molto difficile e spaventoso per tutti, ma volevamo ritagliarci un momento per celebrare e riconoscere parte del duro lavoro e dei grandi spettacoli che hanno fatto parte del Vault Festival 2020.”

Martin-Williams ha proseguito: “Anche se ci spezza il cuore aver dovuto chiudere il festival in anticipo, crediamo che gli incredibili artisti e le compagnie che hanno presentato i loro lavori e riunito le persone per sette delle nostre otto settimane meritino comunque un riconoscimento e di essere celebrati per i loro straordinari traguardi.”
