Vencedores revelados nos prêmios do Vault Festival 2020

Os vencedores foram anunciados hoje nos prémios anuais do Vault Festival 2020 Awards, em Londres.

O festival estava originalmente previsto terminar hoje, mas encerrou uma semana mais cedo devido à pandemia de coronavírus. Em vez de uma cerimónia, os vencedores dos Vault Festival 2020 Awards foram anunciados nas redes sociais pelos fundadores Mat Burtcher e Andy George e pela responsável de teatro e performance, Bec Martin-Williams.

O People’s Choice Award foi atribuído a Stages: A Video Game Musical, escrito por Chris Czornjy e produzido pela Adam Lenson Productions. Em cena no Vault de 3 a 8 de março, contou com as estrelas do teatro musical Anna Jane Casey e Andrew Langtree, ao lado de Aitch Wylie e Max Alexander-Taylor.

O Innovation Award foi para The Grim, o espetáculo imersivo e site-specific da Quietly Fighting Theatre, em exibição de 4 a 16 de fevereiro, que transformava o público em “ceifeiros” freelancers ao serviço do Gabinete do Ceifeiro.

O After Dark Award, que distingue produções de destaque na programação nocturna, foi para Séayoncé’s Comedy Vault, um espetáculo de comédia, cabaré e drag apresentado por Daniel Wye e The Good Witch — descrito como “uma noite de excelência queer e atrevimento espiritual”.

O Spirit Award, para companhias que incorporam o espírito e a filosofia do festival de criatividade, cooperação e gentileza, foi atribuído a Sound Cistem, da Plaster Cast Theatre, de 29 de janeiro a 6 de fevereiro — uma “celebração queer” e uma “festa dançante” que desafia o olhar cisgénero sobre o corpo transgénero.

Houve ainda prémios semanais de Show of the Week e o Origins Award para novo trabalho de destaque. Veja abaixo a lista completa de todos os vencedores e nomeados.

Mais de 2.700 artistas apresentaram 519 produções diferentes a mais de 73.000 espectadores ao longo das sete semanas do festival, de 28 de janeiro a 15 de março. Este número não inclui as 97 produções que não puderam avançar esta semana.

Este ano, o festival apresentou mais trabalho liderado por mulheres, pessoas racializadas, pessoas com deficiência, artistas LGBTQ+ e pessoas da classe trabalhadora.

Burtcher afirmou: “É um período muito difícil e assustador para toda a gente, mas quisemos parar um momento para celebrar e reconhecer parte do trabalho árduo e os excelentes espetáculos que fizeram parte do Vault Festival 2020.”

Martin-Williams acrescentou que “apesar de estarmos de coração partido por termos fechado o festival mais cedo, continuamos a achar que os artistas e companhias incríveis que apresentaram trabalho e juntaram pessoas durante sete das nossas oito semanas merecem reconhecimento e ser celebrados pelas suas conquistas extraordinárias.”
