ヴォールト・フェスティバル2020の受賞者が発表されました

ロンドンで開催されたVault Festival 2020の年次アワード「Vault Festival 2020 Awards」の受賞作が、本日発表されました。

フェスティバルは本来、本日で終了する予定でしたが、新型コロナウイルスのパンデミックにより1週間早く閉幕となりました。授賞式に代えて、創設者のMat BurtcherとAndy George、そして演劇・パフォーマンス部門責任者のBec Martin-Williamsが、SNSを通じて受賞者を発表しました。

観客投票によるPeople’s Choice Awardは、Chris Czornjy作、Adam Lenson Productionsプロデュースの『Stages: A Video Game Musical』が受賞。3月3日から8日までVaultで上演され、ミュージカル界のスターであるAnna Jane CaseyとAndrew Langtreeに加え、Aitch Wylie、Max Alexander-Taylorが出演しました。

Innovation Awardは、Quietly Fighting Theatreによるサイトスペシフィック（会場特性を活かした）没入型作品『The Grim』が受賞（2月4日〜16日）。観客が「死神局（Office of the Grim Reaper）」で働くフリーランスの“reapers（死神）”になるという設定で展開されました。

深夜プログラムの優れた作品に贈られるAfter Dark Awardは、『Séayoncé’s Comedy Vault』が受賞。Daniel WyeとThe Good Witchが手がけるコメディ／キャバレー／ドラァグ・ショーで、「クィアの卓越性とスピリチュアルな刺激に満ちた夜」と評されています。

創造性、協働、優しさというフェスティバルの精神と理念を体現したカンパニーに贈られるSpirit Awardは、Plaster Cast Theatreによる『Sound Cistem』（1月29日〜2月6日）が受賞。「クィアな祝祭」「ダンス・パーティー」として、トランスジェンダーの身体に向けられるシスジェンダーの視線に疑問を投げかける作品です。

このほか、週ごとのShow of the Week、および優れた新作に贈られるOrigins Awardも発表されました。受賞・ノミネート作品の一覧は以下をご覧ください。

1月28日から3月15日までの7週間で、2,700人以上のアーティストが519作品を上演し、観客数は73,000人超にのぼりました。なお、今週上演できなかった97作品はこの数字に含まれていません。

今年は女性、有色人種、障害のある人、LGBTQ+のアーティスト、そして労働者階級の人々が主導する作品が、例年以上に多く紹介されました。

Burtcherは次のようにコメントしています。「誰にとっても、とても困難で不安な時期ですが、Vault Festival 2020の一部として上演されてきた素晴らしい作品と、その尽力を讃え、認める時間を持ちたいと思いました。」

Martin-Williamsも続けて、「早期閉幕となり胸が張り裂ける思いですが、8週間のうち7週間にわたって作品を届け、人々をつないでくれた素晴らしいアーティストとカンパニーには、何らかの形で評価され、その成果を祝福されるべきだと考えています」と述べました。
