Curious Incident và Hamilton thắng lớn tại giải Drama Desk

Bản dựng của Nhà hát Quốc gia (National Theatre) cho tác phẩm The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time đã xuất sắc giành được sáu giải Drama Desk, bao gồm Vở kịch xuất sắc nhất, Nam diễn viên chính xuất sắc nhất và Đạo diễn xuất sắc nhất. Tác phẩm này chỉ chịu xếp sau Hamilton – vở nhạc kịch mới của Lin-Manuel Miranda với bảy giải thưởng. Đây là lần đầu tiên kể từ năm 1983, một chương trình Off-Broadway (sau Little Shop Of Horrors) đã vượt mặt các đối thủ nặng ký tại Broadway. Helen Mirren cũng giành giải Nữ diễn viên chính xuất sắc nhất cho vai diễn trong vở The Audience. Trong khi đó, chương trình độc diễn Just Jim Dale của nghệ sĩ Jim Dale, hiện đang được công diễn tại London, đã chiến thắng tại hạng mục Tạp kỹ (Best Revue) xuất sắc nhất.

Giải thưởng Drama Desk, được trao thường niên ở nhiều hạng mục khác nhau, là giải thưởng sân khấu lớn duy nhất tại Thành phố New York mà trong đó các tác phẩm tại Broadway, Off-Broadway và Off-Off Broadway cùng cạnh tranh trong một hạng mục chung. Được thành lập vào năm 1949 bởi một nhóm các nhà phê bình, biên tập viên, phóng viên và nhà xuất bản sân khấu tại New York, tổ chức này ra đời nhằm mục đích giáo dục cộng đồng về những vấn đề sống còn của nghệ thuật sân khấu.
