History

The St. Martin’s Theatre opened on 23 November 1916. It was designed as part of a pair alongside the Ambassador’s Theatre. The Ambassador’s opened in 1913, and World War 1 delayed work on the St. Martin’s for 3 years.

The inaugural production was the musical comedy Houp La! Other notable productions include R.U.R., The Grass is Greener, The Wrong Side of the Park, and Sleuth.

In 1974, The Mousetrap, which had been running at the Ambassador’s since 1952, transferred into the St. Martin’s.

The production is still running to this day, Celebrating its 60th year in the West End in 2012 (as well as its 25,000 performance) and cementing its position as the longest running theatrical production in the world.

Visiting St. Martin's Theatre and watching 'The Mousetrap', to my mind, is like attending a church service, indeed not to get a spectacular experience, it is quite different, it is to enjoy a classic experience, like enjoying Christmas together with your family, you know what kind of play to expect and what better not. Having said that, I highly enjoyed the atmosphere of this old theatre and, of course, the play of the experienced actors. You will be rewarded going there - and if you don't care too much about minor matters like temperature or lighting. P.S. I will not give any clues regarding the solution to the mystery...

I love a good murder mystery play and The Mousetrap was just the right one to satisfy such a desire for it! Oh. My. Goodness. It was a play to remember!!!!!! One with twists and turns! Drama! And the best part of it all, the suspense of figuring out who dunnit! It was my first time watching this play and I was not disappointed in the slightest. I loved every bit of it and it was well worth the time and money spent to go watch this fantastic play!

We watched The Nutcracker at St Martin’s Theatre and it was a lovely Christmas show for kids. The production was festive, colourful, and magical, and the cast did a great job keeping young audiences engaged. It’s a wonderful family-friendly show and a great way to introduce children to theatre. However, it was sometimes difficult to hear the cast clearly, and the seating was quite tight — the seats are close together with very little legroom, which made it a bit uncomfortable. Overall, a charming festive experience that I would still recommend for families during the Christmas season.

We watched the Nutcracker on a Saturday morning in December. It was packed out with families and little children. The seat itself was OK but there isn't much of a recline with the seating area and the knee gap is small. So when people passed through our seats it was easiesr to just move out of our seats entirely, to the end of the end of the row and let people through. It was very narrow. We had a good view from Row C, 15-17. The toilets cubicles in the foyer were very small. It was a squeeze getting in and out. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The theatre itself is small and tight all round. Located in a very good place. Nutcracker was entertaining and amusing. Great team of actors and singing. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
