St Martin’s Theatre was designed by W. G. R. Sprague as one of a pair with the neighbouring Ambassadors Theatre on West Street. Richard Verney, 19th Baron Willoughby de Broke, and B. A. (Bertie) Meyer commissioned both buildings. The Ambassadors opened in 1913, but the First World War delayed the St Martin’s, which finally opened on 23 November 1916 with the Edwardian musical comedy Houp La!, starring Gertie Millar and produced by Charles B. Cochran.
Later successes included R.U.R. with Basil Rathbone, The Grass is Greener, John Mortimer’s The Wrong Side of the Park and, in 1970, the thriller Sleuth. The theatre was Grade II listed in March 1973 and is still owned by the Willoughby de Broke family.
In March 1974 The Mousetrap transferred next door from the Ambassadors, where it had opened in 1952. It has played at St Martin’s ever since, making it the longest-running play in the world.

St Martin’s is a small, traditional house over three levels: Stalls, Dress Circle and Upper Circle, plus boxes including a private Royal Box. Its size keeps most seats close to the stage, which suits a drawing room mystery like The Mousetrap.
The Dress Circle is the step free friendliest level and has the adapted toilet. The Stalls and Upper Circle involve stairs. Only small bags that fit under or in front of your seat are allowed, as there is no cloakroom.

Wheelchair access via a removable ramp at the main entrance, with two wheelchair spaces (Box C and the Dress Circle), an adapted toilet on the Dress Circle level, an RF assistive listening system on all three levels, and guide and hearing dogs welcome. There are no lifts.
There are three shallow steps from the pavement to the foyer, where the box office is on the left. Wheelchair users enter via a removable ramp at the main entrance, and staff are on hand to help. There are two wheelchair spaces, one in Box C and one in the Dress Circle, and you can transfer to an aisle seat in the Dress Circle.
There are five steps to the back of the Dress Circle, with two steps between rows. The Stalls and Upper Circle are not suitable for patrons with walking difficulties, and there are no lifts. All bars are reached by stairs.
An adapted toilet is on the Dress Circle level, reached via the Tower Court entrance. An RF assistive listening system works on all three levels with a headset or a T-coil pendant (no Bluetooth). Captioned performances are offered on selected dates; ask the box office for upcoming ones. Guide dogs and hearing dogs are welcome, and staff can dog sit by prior arrangement. Call the box office on +44 (0)20 7836 1443 to book access seats.

Visiting St. Martin's Theatre and watching 'The Mousetrap', to my mind, is like attending a church service, indeed not to get a spectacular experience, it is quite different, it is to enjoy a classic experience, like enjoying Christmas together with your family, you know what kind of play to expect and what better not. Having said that, I highly enjoyed the atmosphere of this old theatre and, of course, the play of the experienced actors. You will be rewarded going there - and if you don't care too much about minor matters like temperature or lighting. P.S. I will not give any clues regarding the solution to the mystery...
I love a good murder mystery play and The Mousetrap was just the right one to satisfy such a desire for it! Oh. My. Goodness. It was a play to remember!!!!!! One with twists and turns! Drama! And the best part of it all, the suspense of figuring out who dunnit! It was my first time watching this play and I was not disappointed in the slightest. I loved every bit of it and it was well worth the time and money spent to go watch this fantastic play!
We watched The Nutcracker at St Martin’s Theatre and it was a lovely Christmas show for kids. The production was festive, colourful, and magical, and the cast did a great job keeping young audiences engaged. It’s a wonderful family-friendly show and a great way to introduce children to theatre. However, it was sometimes difficult to hear the cast clearly, and the seating was quite tight — the seats are close together with very little legroom, which made it a bit uncomfortable. Overall, a charming festive experience that I would still recommend for families during the Christmas season.
We watched the Nutcracker on a Saturday morning in December. It was packed out with families and little children. The seat itself was OK but there isn't much of a recline with the seating area and the knee gap is small. So when people passed through our seats it was easiesr to just move out of our seats entirely, to the end of the end of the row and let people through. It was very narrow. We had a good view from Row C, 15-17. The toilets cubicles in the foyer were very small. It was a squeeze getting in and out. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The theatre itself is small and tight all round. Located in a very good place. Nutcracker was entertaining and amusing. Great team of actors and singing. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
