Genomineerden Drama Desk Awards 2019 bekendgemaakt

De nominaties voor de Drama Desk Awards 2019 zijn vandaag bekendgemaakt, met een revival van Oklahoma! als koploper met maar liefst 12 nominaties.

De Drama Desk Awards worden uitgereikt aan producties op Broadway, Off-Broadway en Off-Off Broadway. De ceremonie van dit jaar vindt op 2 juni 2019 plaats in The Town Hall, New York.

Tootsie en Rags Parkland Sings the Songs of the Future volgen Oklahoma! op de voet met elk 11 nominaties.

Producties als Hadestown, Torch Song en Choir Boy, die in voorgaande seizoenen al Off-Broadway te zien waren, kwamen dit jaar alleen in aanmerking voor categorieën waarin de jury oordeelde dat er sprake was van nieuw werk.

De producties Be More Chill, What the Constitution Means To Me, Oklahoma! en The New One stonden in hetzelfde seizoen zowel Off-Broadway als op Broadway; daarom zijn beide opvoeringen als één geheel beoordeeld voor de nominaties.

De Drama Desk Awards worden toegekend door theatercritici, journalisten, redacteuren, uitgevers en omroepmedewerkers.

Voor Mia Katigbak, de drijvende kracht achter de Off-Broadway scene, die wij eren voor haar rollen dit seizoen in “Henry VI: Shakespeare’s Trilogy in Two Parts”, “The Trial of the Catonsville Nine”, “Peace for Mary Francis” en “Recent Alien Abductions”. Deze prijs is tevens een erkenning voor haar cruciale rol als artistiek directeur van NAATCO en haar voortdurende uitmuntendheid als acteur en mentor.

Voor Repertorio Español voor het presenteren van een jaarrond, roulerend repertoire van nieuwe en klassieke Spaanstalige toneelstukken in hun intieme theater aan Gramercy. Al 51 jaar is Repertorio een onmisbaar instituut voor het Spaanstalige publiek, terwijl ze niet-Spaanstalige theaterbezoekers uitnodigen om de parels van de Spaanse canon te ontdekken en New York kennis laten maken met het werk van acteurs als Zulema Clares en Germán Jaramillo.
