Venue info

Adelphi Theatre, British Theatre üzerinde yer alan Londra'nın en köklü tiyatro mekanlarından biridir. Ziyaretinizden önce sahnelenecek oyunları inceleyebilir, mekana dair pratik bilgilere ve bilet rezervasyonuyla ilgili ipuçlarına göz atabilirsiniz. Adelphi Tiyatrosu’nun hikâyesi 1806 yılında, tüccar John Scott ve oyun yazarı kızı Jane tarafından "Sans Pareil" (Eşsiz) adıyla kurulmasıyla başladı. 1809’a gelindiğinde kendi tiyatro topluluklarını kuran baba-kız, burada Jane’in kaleme aldığı 50’den fazla eseri sahneledi. Jane’in 1819’daki emekliliğinin ardından "The Adelphi" adıyla yeniden kapılarını açan mekân, Charles Dickens’ın Antikacı Dükkânı ve Nicholas Nickleby gibi eserlerinin sahne uyarlamalarıyla ün kazandı. Efsaneye göre Terriss’in hayaleti bugün bile hâlâ tiyatro koridorlarında dolaşmaktadır. History

The theatre (originally the Sans Pareil; “Without Compare”) was founded in 1806 by merchant John Scott and his daughter Jane, a performer and playwright. By 1809 they had started a theatre company together and performed over 50 works written by Jane. After Jane’s retirement in 1819, it was reopened as The Adelphi and became known as a venue for stage adapted works of Charles Dickens, including The Old Curiosity Shop and Nicholas Nickleby. The theatre was demolished and reopened as The New Adelphi in 1858, with improvements to the auditorium, and productions their helped established the reputations of John Lawrence Toole and Arthur Sullivan. In 1897, the actor William Terriss was murdered while entering the theatre and it is said his ghost haunts it to this day. The theatre went through two more monikers (The Century in 1901, and reverting back to The Adelphi in 1904) before the present site on The Strand opened in 1930 following a full art-deco redesign and another name change (The Royal Adelphi, which would last until 1940). Thanks to the efforts of the Save London Theatres Campaign, the Adelphi managed to survive a proposed redevelopment of Covent Garden by the GLC in 1968, and continued to host acclaimed shows, such as the original London production of Sondheim’s A Little Night Music. The theatre was purchased and refurbished by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group in 1993, just before the opening of Sunset Boulevard. The Adelphi was the original home of Chicago which ran for over 8 years before transferring, making it the venue’s longest production.

Went to see Back to the Future on a weeknight. I was seated in the last balcony, on the left side. View was really great for the price although you see a small amount of the lighting spots. But it doesn’t bother you much. Toilets are also just next to you so it's a convenient place. Seat was comfortable with enough space in front of me. The only downside was that they close the toilets at the end of the show and you take a backstage stair so you get out in the narrow alley which can be crowded.

Saw the BTTF musical on Thursday 5th March, the theatre itself was very tidy, staff were kind and helpful and enthusiastic. No issues getting in and their is multiple bars inside the theatre itself on each level. So no chance youll get thirsty lol. One thing to note, no noticeable air conditioning. If there is, I didnt notice it. Was extremely warm in upper circle once sat down. The musical itself was amazing 👏 highly recommend seeing it if your a fan of the BTTF movie.

Takes cash payments in some of the bars and the shop. Back to the Future is the best show ive seen for ages. The dialogue is well written, the songs have clever and funny content. The music is varied and the band is amazing. Great choreography & costumes. The musical numbers really add to the story. Amazing multimedia stage production. See it while it's still on! Comfortable theatre with reasonable bar prices and some beautiful art deco inspired decor
